This squad is voted for by professional players from all over the world and is the only global award decided entirely by the players. The reference period for player performance for selection is from December 19, 2022 to August 20, 2023, during which time the player has played at least 23 official matches.
All professional players were entitled to vote freely, and the voting tool provided a list of suggestions, but voters could also add other players on their own. The final 11-man squad includes one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and four strikers, with the non-goalkeeper player with the highest number of remaining votes being selected. This lineup represents players who have excelled in soccer over the past year.
