Midfielder Gilmour and defender Van Hecke are playing some of the best soccer of their burgeoning careers this season.
"Our policy is to improve players and sell them where possible," De Zerbi said. "It's a normal thing and we have to accept it.
"We have a lot of potentially great players, not only Estupinan and João Pedro, but (Evan) Ferguson, (Facundo) Buonanotte, Jackie (Hinshelwood). Gilmour and Van Hecke are becoming great players.
"They're top notch, all of them."
