Belgium

Head coach Tedesco has confirmed that Real Madrid

goalkeeper (soccer, hockey etc)

Thibaut Courtois (1954-), French soccer player

will not represent Belgium at this year's Euro 2024. Courtois tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in early August 2023 and suffered another meniscus tear in mid-March 2024 in his right knee. Although he returned to training with the squad for the Champions League semi-final in Munich on Monday, Tedesco said Ancelotti expects Courtois to return to the squad for their next match against Cadiz.

Courtois, who has had a frosty relationship with Belgium's Italian-born manager Domenico Tedesco since June 2023, was unhappy that De Bruyne was not named Belgium captain following his injury. The man who wore the captain's armband against Austria was Romelu Lukaku.

Courtois announced last December that he would forgo the Europa League due to a left knee injury. Tedesco explained in a roundtable discussion with the German media, "Courtois announced his decision last December, preparing the Belgian staff to travel to the Euros without him. We will focus on players in good form."
