Howe later said: "I thought Liverpool (England) played well. It was a very tough game for us.
"I'm still baffled by the penalties we conceded. The second one especially didn't look like a penalty. We had one [not given] before that and that could have been the turning point.
"We are trying to get back to our best level. The effort and determination is there. As long as we continue to see that, we'll be fine.
"The most important thing is that we are fighting. We were missing a lot of players and we had a lot of tough games in a crowded December.
He added: "There's a lot happening. A dynamic game. We were disappointed with the way we played defense.
"You have to have the mindset that you create your luck. Feeling sorry for yourself never leads to anything positive.
"The players gave everything. I support the quality of the team. In time we will get the results we need.
