The ball arced through the air, over the heads of Atletico's defenders and into the corner of the net. Alaves took a valuable 1-0 lead over Atletico.
Trailing, Atletico tried to launch a counterattack as their players stepped up their offense and kept trying to shoot. However, Alaves' defense was very solid and didn't give their opponents too many chances. The likes of Giuliano Simeone and Aspilicueta tried to shoot, but the ball was firmly held by the Alaves goalkeeper.
Atletico still couldn't change the situation at the start of the second half. Their offense intensified, but Alaves' defense remained solid. In the final stage of the game, Alaves' Rioja received a pass from a teammate in front of the penalty area. He adjusted his position and then suddenly shot into the air. The ball flew towards the goal like a cannonball, and although the Atletico goalkeeper reacted, he was unable to prevent the ball from entering the net. Alaves led Atletico 2-0 and sealed the win.
As the final whistle blew, Alaves beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 at home.
