Arrested in Tokyo, Japan for alleged sexual assault. Reports say that Kaisenori Sano and two other men were arrested on Sunday after a woman was sexually assaulted after a meal at a hotel. The Japanese judiciary has not yet revealed any further details and FC Mainz has declined to comment on the matter for the time being.
23-year-old Kaisen Sano is a Japanese-born midfielder who made his debut for the Japan national team in November 2023 and played in the January 2024 Asian Cup. Kaisen Sano moved to Mainz from Kashima Antlers for €2.5 million during this summer's transfer window and was scheduled to begin training with Mainz on June 21st.
However, with the allegations of sexual assault surfacing, Kaisen Sano's training program may not be able to proceed on time. This incident is a major blow to both FC Mainz and Kaiser Sano himself, and the club's reinforcement program and team preparations will also be affected.
