Atletico Madrid have made progress in their negotiations with Alvarez, with boss Simeone keen to sign the player and Alvarez keen to gain a higher profile in the squad.
Last season, Alvarez made 54 appearances for Manchester City, totaling 3,481 minutes of playing time, an average of 64 minutes per game. However, he only got 33 minutes of game time in the Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid.
Alvarez is aiming to get more chances to play in important matches, so he feels a move away from Manchester City is necessary.
