Reflecting on the 2023 UEFA Cup final defeat, Roma star Dybala opened up and shared his innermost feelings. He confessed that the defeat in that match was a huge emotional blow for him, to the point of being unbearable.
"After winning the World Cup with Argentina, I was expecting another important victory in Rome," said Dybala, "but the reality was harsh and we lost. At that moment, the emotional shock completely broke me. I never thought I would have such a hard time with this result. This loss was a huge blow for me."
Dybala further explained: "I know that for the fans of Roma and the whole city, this final victory will be historic, probably a unique moment in the club's history. I've been here for a year now and I've built a strong bond with the team and the city. Whenever people ask me why I care so much about this loss, I can't give a definitive answer. I think it has to do with the time I've spent with the team, the experiences I've had in the city, the friends I've made, and what's going on in the locker room. All of these factors came together to make this final loss especially heavy for me."
