On July 19, Beijing time, Sports Weekly reporter Ma Dexing reported on the latest developments regarding the 18-team stage of the World Qualifying Tournament, especially an important motion made by the AFC to FIFA. According to Ma Dexing, the AFC has formally applied to FIFA for yellow cards during the 36-team second phase of the Asian qualifying round to no longer be carried over to the third phase of the 18-team tournament. This proposal, if approved, will have a profound impact on the participating teams, including China.

According to FIFA's original rules, red and yellow cards will be counted uniformly throughout the qualifying tournament, i.e., they will carry over from one stage of the tournament to the next. However, due to the unique nature of the Asian qualifiers - the second phase of the 36-team tournament is also the second phase of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers - this rule was complicated and potentially unfair in practice. The AFC has therefore decided to take action to create a more level playing field for the participating teams.

The offer is certainly good news for the Chinese team. During the 36-team tournament, the Chinese team received a total of 1 red card and 17 yellow cards, including Li Yuanyi's direct red card and Wu Lei's two yellow cards resulting in suspension. These red and yellow cards, if brought into the 18-team tournament, will have a great impact on the Chinese team's lineup. Once the AFC's proposal is approved by FIFA, the Chinese team will be able to play the first match of the 18-team tournament with the strongest lineup, which undoubtedly adds more possibilities and competitiveness to the team.

Although FIFA has not yet given a definitive answer, the response has reportedly been positive. This means that AFC's proposal is expected to be approved in the near future. Once approved, teams will need to reassess their tactics and personnel arrangements to accommodate the change.

For the Chinese team, while enjoying this good news, they also need to continue to strengthen their own strength building. After all, in the highly competitive World Qualifying Tournament, only with excellent strength and outstanding performance can win the final victory. Therefore, the Chinese team in the next preparation needs to pay more attention to the technical and tactical integration and the adjustment of the players' state, in order to ensure that in the 18 strong match to play the best level.
