The decision on the proposal to participate in international soccer competitions means that the Israeli national Olympic team can participate in the 2024 Paris
the Olympics
of the soccer game.
In March of this year, the Palestinian Football Association formally submitted a proposal to FIFA calling for Israel's expulsion from FIFA and a ban on its participation in FIFA tournaments. In May of this year, FIFA announced that it would conduct an independent legal assessment of this proposal, and originally planned to convene a special council before July 25 to review the results of the legal assessment and make a decision.
However, FIFA recently said that both the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) and the Israeli Football Association (IFA) have requested an extension to "submit their respective positions", and will therefore postpone its decision until the results of the legal assessment are available by August 31 at the latest.
"An independent legal assessment of the Palestinian Football Association's proposal against the Israeli Football Association was due to be submitted to the FIFA Council by July 20, 2024. However, additional time was needed to complete the process with due care and integrity after both parties requested an extension to submit their respective positions and were formally approved by FIFA. The results of the assessment will be shared with the FIFA Council by August 31, 2024 for subsequent decisions. FIFA thanks both Member Associations for their continued support and cooperation."
The decision means that the Israeli National Olympic Team will be able to compete in soccer at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is positive news for the Israeli soccer community, which will continue to prepare for the Paris Olympics while awaiting the final results of FIFA's evaluation and subsequent decisions.
