The progress of the deal. Romano said that while Arsenal fans are very concerned about the deal, the two sides have not agreed on a €50 million transfer fee at the moment.

Romano explained, "I know that Arsenal fans are looking for new news on Carafiore, but the situation has not changed in any substantial way at the moment, with Arsenal and Bologna still in contact but no agreement reached on a €50 million transfer fee."

The crux of the matter was that Bologna wanted a €50 million pay-as-you-go transfer fee, while Arsenal's offer included a floating clause for a total of €50 million. As Bologna are required to hand over 50% of the profit from the transfer fee to Basel, which is €20 million, they are asking the buyer to offer a fixed transfer fee of €50 million.

This means that while talks between Arsenal and Bologna continue, differences between the two sides over the way the transfer fee is paid need to be further resolved. Bologna are insisting on a fixed amount, while Arsenal want to complete the deal through a floating clause.
