The transfer of the matter. Arsenal have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with Dutch giants Ajax over the transfer of Thetford, which is expected to amount to a fee of around €1 million.

Thetford, an outstanding representative of Ajax's youth team, has already shown exceptional goalkeeping talent despite his young age. However, due to the fact that he only has one year left in his contract and he has no intention of renewing it, Ajax finally decided to release him. Arsenal managed to convince Ajax to accept this lower transfer fee after some negotiations.

Arsenal's move is obviously to strengthen the team's goalkeeper position. Currently, Arsenal's main goalkeeper is German international goalkeeper Leno, but his replacements Ramsdale and Raya are both enjoying their vacation after participating in the Europa League and cannot return to the team for the time being. Therefore, the addition of Thetford will provide Arsenal with more options.

Arsenal are scheduled to depart for the United States on Sunday to begin a two-week preseason tour. During this time, Arsenal will play friendlies against the likes of Bournemouth, Manchester United and Liverpool as a way of testing the team's preparations. Thetford is expected to join up with the team during this period and could feature in the matches against Manchester United and Liverpool.
