Former Chelsea star Cascarino recently spoke on talkSPORT about the alleged racial abuse within the Chelsea squad. He specifically mentioned the player involved, Enzo Fernandes, and believes that Chelsea FC must take the matter seriously and make a big decision on whether or not to keep Enzo on.
Cascarino recalled his time playing for Chelsea in the 90s, stating that what Enzo did could have sparked huge controversy and discontent for the culture and atmosphere in the team's dressing room at the time. He emphasized that this is a very difficult and hard to deal with issue that needs to be faced by Chelsea's senior management and coaching team.
Cascarino noted that there may be situations between players who are upset with someone, but that does not excuse racist behavior. He questioned whether the other players in the locker room would be comfortable and accepting of the matter after the video was leaked. He emphasized that there was no reason to allow such a video to be leaked, as it would undoubtedly hurt the player who was discriminated against, and could also undermine team unity and morale.
As for Enzo's future, Cascarino believes he must apologize to the entire team in person to show his remorse and sincerity. He said that while some players may not be able to forgive such behavior, an apology is at least a start that could potentially earn Enzo some forgiveness and a chance to reintegrate into the team.
