According to a new report from local authority L'Osservatore Romano, with Bologna defender Carafiore's impending move to Premier League giants Arsenal, his parent club Roma will receive a sizable transfer share as a result. This gain stems from the shrewd layout of Roma's sporting director Thiago Pinto in previous transfer operations.

When the Carafiore left Roma to join Basel for around €1.5 million in 2022, Thiago Pinto reportedly added a special 40% share of future transfers clause to the transfer contract. This clause played a key role in the subsequent deal. Last summer, Basel resold the Carafiore to Bologna for around €4 million, from which Roma received 40% of the transfer fee, or around €1.6 million, as per the agreement.

However, that's not all that Roma gained. As Basel also retained the right to a 50% share of the player's future transfers when they sold Carafiore to Bologna, Basel will once again make a significant profit when Bologna sell Carafiore to Arsenal for a whopping price of around €50 million. And according to the agreement with Roma, Roma will be entitled to another 40% share of the proceeds.

Specifically, Basel's 50% share of the proceeds from Bologna's sale of the Carafiore (after deducting the fixed transfer fee paid by Arsenal) is expected to have a variable portion in the region of €8 million, after deducting various commissions and fees. Roma will therefore be entitled to a further 40% share of that €8 million, or around €3.2 million.
