Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier could leave the club this summer, according to a new report from Northern Echo chief reporter Scott Wilson, largely due to the fact that his contract is due to expire and the two sides have yet to enter into talks to extend it. In January last year, Newcastle rejected a £12.8 million offer from Bayern Munich and opted to keep Trippier until the end of the season. However, Trippier's inconsistent form since December last year, coupled with the rapid rise of youngster Livramento, has led the Magpies hierarchy to favor selling the 33-year-old this summer.
A move for Trippier, one of Newcastle's highest paid players, would not only bring in a sizable transfer fee, but would also free up space on the club's wage bill and help Newcastle comply with the Premier League's PSR rules. While Bayern may no longer be interested in Trippier, two clubs in Saudi Arabia have expressed strong interest and transfer talks are expected to be formalized in the coming weeks.
Trippier is yet to resume pre-season training as he has just competed at Euro 2024 and been given extra time off. At the Euros, he played in almost all of England's matches, except for the final against Spain. However, with Livramento established as the team's first choice right back for the future, Trippier's departure is almost a certainty. To fill the void, Newcastle may look to bring in Fiorentina playmaker Kayode as a replacement.
Furthermore, Trippier may not be the only senior player to leave Newcastle this summer. The contract situations of Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson have also sparked widespread concern. Longstaff is also entering a contract year and has yet to agree an extension with the club, with the prospect of an extension uncertain despite his age (26) being more favorable compared to Trippier.
Almiron's future is overshadowed by Newcastle's desire to find a new right winger, whose future in the team no longer seems secure. Wilson, who will miss the start of the new season with a back problem and whose contract is due to expire, is preferred by the club's hierarchy to be sold while he still has transfer value, although manager Eddie Howe would like to see him stay.
