In a recent interview with the media, Arsenal defender Timberlake opened up about his nine-month absence from the field of play due to a cruciate ligament injury, as well as his thoughts on how he felt about missing the Europa League, recovering from the injury, his personal versatility, and the competition for positions in the team.

Talking about his feelings at the beginning of the injury, Timberlake said frankly, "It was really hard to accept at that moment because I knew I might not be able to play for the whole season. I was filled with resentment because I really didn't want to take a break like that. So, I saw it as an early start to my preparation for next season and another way to keep myself in competitive shape."

Regretting his absence from the Dutch national team for the Euros, Timberlake said, "I did feel a little frustrated when the Dutch played their first match because I realized I was not back to my best. But my heart was yearning to play alongside the national team, and that desire to play with the team in the Euros was always burning."

Fortunately, Timberlake's recovery from his injury has exceeded expectations. He revealed, "My recovery is going really well and despite missing several weeks, I've spent enough time recovering from my knee injury. Now I feel great and am getting closer to my best."

Timberlake also emphasized his versatility on the pitch, "I've played in all positions in the back line, including several appearances in pre-season last season in the role of left back. I enjoy the variety as it means I can contribute more to the team. I've spoken to Ben White about this and we both agree that it's good to be able to play more than one position, not only does it increase the chances of playing, but it also gives the coach more options in terms of tactical set-ups. For me, no matter what position I play, I will give my best."

On the competition for positions within the team, Timberlake is positive: "I think this competition is very good for the team. It takes hard work and dedication from everyone on the team to win trophies. This competitive atmosphere allows us all to be at our best, motivate each other and improve together."
