Montella, 43, who has coached Roma, Catania, Fiorentina and Sampdoria, took charge of AC Milan last summer.
The former Italian international led the Red and Blacks to the Italian Super Cup, but he was sacked on November 27 this year due to his poor record during the season.
Sevilla are currently 5th in the La Liga table and they are two points behind 4th place Real Madrid.
It is worth noting that Montella's best result in Europe was leading Fiorentina to the UEFA Cup semifinals in 2015, but was ultimately knocked out of the competition by Sevilla. Montera is also the first Italian manager in Sevilla's history and the ninth Italian manager in La Liga history.
