In the recently concluded European Cup, Laporte performed well and attracted the attention of Real Madrid. Currently, Real Madrid has a shortage of personnel in the center back position, and manager Carlo Ancelotti hopes to introduce Laporte to strengthen the defense.
Laporte joined Riyadh Victory last summer, signing a three-year contract with an annual salary of €24 million. Laporte has shown great excitement about Real Madrid's interest and is willing to give up the remaining two years of his contract to move to Real Madrid. However, Riyadh Victory do not intend to release him easily.
At the time, Riyadh Victory spent €27 million to sign Laporte from Manchester City, so they were hoping to get a certain transfer fee from Real Madrid as compensation. However, Real Madrid wanted to sign Laporte on a waiver, which left the two sides in major disagreement during the negotiations.
Laporte has not been comfortable in Saudi Arabia, which has made him want to leave as soon as possible. Riyadh Victory's insistence on demanding a transfer fee is more to preserve the club's face than because of financial issues, which complicates transfer negotiations.
For their part, Real Madrid have said that they know that Alaba will be back in November, so if Riyadh Victory are not willing to let Laporte go for free, Real Madrid could pause their pursuit of him.
For now, the distance between the two sides remains great, and Laporte's future remains uncertain.
