Bordeaux

In an official announcement, the club confirms that it has applied to the court in order to start the necessary reorganization process

become impoverished

. The court will soon open the process and the club will lose its professional club status as a result.

It was previously reported that Bordeaux were unable to pay wages and had to make major spending cuts. As of June 30, the club had a net loss of €40 million. Giving up professional status will result in the automatic termination of all player contracts and also the loss of the training center.

Without professional players the need for cash will be greatly reduced, and the club's president and owner, Gérard Lopez, will still have to assure the court that he is able to continue running the company. If the court approves the legal recovery, the club will be required to submit a budget for next season to the French Football Financial Control Commission (DNCG) in the next few days.

Founded in 1881, Bordeaux is a traditional powerhouse in French soccer, having won six Ligue 1 titles and three French Cups. However, at the end of the 2021/22 season, Bordeaux was relegated from Ligue 1 to Ligue 2. In the 2023/24 season, Bordeaux won 14, drew 9, and lost 15 in Ligue 2, and ended up in 13th place.

This news is undoubtedly a major blow to the Bordeaux club and its fans. Whether Bordeaux will be able to weather the storm and return to the professional game in the future remains an open question.
