In a recent media interview, Korean Football Association (KFA) President Chung Mong-kyu expressed his views on several hot topics, including the leadership of national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann, Son's clash with Lee Gang-in at the Asian Cup, and criticism of young player Lee Gang-in.
On clashes at the Asian Cup
Jung Mong-kyu began by talking about the clash between Son and Lee Gang-in at the Asian Cup. He said that mood swings and sensitivities are inevitable due to the fact that the Korean team has many dynamic young players. He emphasized that on the soccer field, players need to respect, encourage and support each other, and face dissatisfaction and troubles in the game with a mature attitude. Only then can they work together as a whole in pursuit of a good match result.
Jung Mong-kyu also pointed out that players and coaching staff must be united and not bring their personal emotions into the game and training. He called on everyone to look at the big picture and put the interests of the team first, and work together to fight for the honor of Korean soccer.
On Klinsmann's leadership
Speaking about Klinsmann, Chung Mong-kyu said that Korean soccer fans and the public tend to have high expectations of national team coaches, who are expected to be like a father or teacher with strong leadership and influence. However, he also recognizes that every coach has his own coaching style and philosophy, and Klinsmann is no exception. He believes that Klinsmann can lead the Korean team to better results with his professionalism and rich experience.
Criticisms on Lee Gang-yin
Jung Mong-kyu expressed a different opinion on the recent criticisms against Lee Gang-in. He believes that the issue of harmony between players of different age groups is a problem that needs to be solved on a social level, not just by criticizing a particular player. He emphasized that a team made up of famous or outstanding players alone may not be able to achieve good results, and that it is more important to coalesce these players into a united whole. He called on everyone to give more understanding and support to the young players and work together for their growth and progress.
