On Monday morning (1), Group B of the Americas played a do-or-die game in the final round. Mexico could only play 0-0 with Ecuador and could not get out of the group. Ecuador scored four points to finish second in the group and move into the top 8, where they will face the previous Argentine champions.

Both teams also have 3 points before the match. Mexico had one goal less in net and had to win a wave to get out of the tournament. The North American powerhouse had as many as 18 shots on goal, but was inefficient with only three on target. Five minutes into stoppage time, Mexican striker Gulim Martinez entered the box and fell. The ball witness originally ruled 12 yards. after VAR ended, the decision was canceled. Mexico lost its chance for a shutout and was doomed.

In the other match, Venezuela, who clinched the right to play before the tournament, thrashed Jamaica 3-0 to finish first in the group with three wins and will face Canada in the last eight.
