Paris Olympics
In the round of 16 in the sabre event.
Egyptian player
Nada Hafiz
Defeated 7-15 by South Korea's Jeon Ha Young, Hafiz was moved to tears after the match and revealed in a social media post that she is seven months pregnant.
Hafiz wrote after the race, "7 months pregnant Olympian! It looks like two competitors on stage, but it's actually three! Me, my competitor and my baby who is yet to come into the world. My baby and I have been through quite a few challenges, both physically and emotionally. Pregnancy itself was difficult. Fighting for balance in life and in the athletic program is definitely more grueling. But it was worth it."
Hafiz added, "I am writing this article to show that I am proud of myself for making it to the round of 16! I'm so lucky to have the trust of my husband and family to get this far."
The story of this courageous Egyptian competitor has touched countless people, not only for her continued training and competing during her pregnancy, but also for her remarkable achievements at a high level of competition. Hafez's experience demonstrates the resilience and determination of female athletes in the face of major life challenges, and sets an example for others to follow.
As Hafiz continues to embrace a new chapter in her life in the coming days, fans will continue to keep an eye on her and look forward to another successful tournament in the future.
