According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have officially opened a deal with Atlanta FC over Dutch midfielder
Kupmenas
of transfer talks. Juventus have been showing strong interest in Koupmenas this summer, but only made their first offer - €45 million - this week. Although there is still a gap between this offer and Atalanta's asking price of €60 million, the two sides have officially entered the negotiation phase.
Juve's strategy:
Juventus hope that Koupmenas can pressure Atlanta to leave the team voluntarily, thus favoring them to get better conditions in transfer negotiations. Koupmenas still started in Atlanta's last warm-up game, showing how much Atlanta values him. Juve, on the other hand, could potentially close the gap with Atalanta by increasing their offer, adding players (such as Rugani) or adding bonus clauses.
Background on Kupermenas:
Koupmenas missed Euro 2024 due to an injury but is now fully recovered. He is seen as the ideal front man in Juventus' tactical system to support Vlahovic behind him. Juventus are hoping to complete their midfield revamp as soon as possible to provide manager Juan Motta with a midfield setup at the highest level.
Juventus' reinforcement program:
Juventus have already signed two new midfielders in Douglas Luiz and Heffron Thuram this summer, plus Locatelli, Faggioli and Miletti, and sporting director Ghiuntoli is looking to bring in Koupmenas to further strengthen the midfield. Meanwhile, Juventus are also finalizing a deal for defender Todibo and plan to operate with reinforcements on the forward line in August depending on the departure or retention of Chiesa Jr. and Milik.
