Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's upcoming friendly against the K-League All-Stars, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou attended a press conference and expressed his views on the upcoming match and the development of Asian soccer.
Postecoglou began by expressing his gratitude for the warm reception of the Korean fans, specifically mentioning Son's great influence in Korea. "We were given a very warm welcome, which honored us deeply." He said, "We know how respected Son is in his own country and it was a rare experience for us to learn that and feel that atmosphere. We will reward everyone's support with a great game."
Recalling his experience as head coach of the Australian national team that beat South Korea at the 2015 Asian Cup, Postecoglou laughed and said he didn't know what kind of reception he was going to get at the time, and therefore stayed close to Son to get a sense of the emotions of the Korean fans. "I was really impressed by that victory, but what touched me more was the Korean fans' love for soccer and their support for the players." He said.
Postecoglou has always had a positive attitude towards Asian soccer. He believes that the K-League is a very strong league with many talented players. "After my coaching experience in Europe, I am even more convinced that Korean players have a high potential to succeed in European soccer." He said, "In fact, Korea has already had many players who have been successful in Europe and Son is certainly one of the best. When I was Celtic manager, I brought in a great Korean player like Oh Hyun Kyu. Now, I am also following the performances of other Korean players and I have full confidence in the future of Korean soccer."
Looking ahead to the upcoming friendly against the K-League All-Stars, Postecoglou says it will be a great matchup. "We know that the K-League All-Stars have a lot of good players and their strength should not be underestimated." He said, "But we also believe in our own strength and we will do our best to bring a great game to our fans."
