The Echo is reporting that Liverpool's contract extension talks with Salah are progressing slowly, making it more likely that Salah will leave the club on a free agency. Salah is currently in the final year of his contract, and the extension has so far not been finalized.

In the pre-season warm-up games, Salah was outstanding. Against Arsenal, he scored on a direct run from Elliott, and in his first preseason game against Betis, he assisted Sobosloe to score. Considering Salah's past performances against Manchester United, it wouldn't be surprising to see him continue to excel in the upcoming preseason.

Although Salah's performances on the field have not been affected by his contractual issues, the fact that he is in a contract year puts Liverpool under a lot of pressure. New boss Sloter has made it clear that Salah is still an integral part of the team and the priority is to inspire the prolific attacker to be at his best. Salah showed his key role against Arsenal when he played very well with Elliot, Sobosloe and Bradley.

However, this season will be a whole new test for Salah and he will have to prove his worth in front of his new manager. Slotter has already spoken about the demands on the player's fitness profile and Salah cannot rely on past glories to secure his place.

The Liverpool Echo concludes that the longer Liverpool take to reach an agreement with Salah on a new contract, the more likely it is that the Egyptian star will leave on a free next summer. If the new season is Salah's last for Liverpool, the winger will no doubt still give it his all, as he has done every season since joining the team.
