The Europa League kicks off in the early hours of Saturday morning (15) and the Dutch will be hit again. After Frankie Dijon retired with an injury, another midfielder, Goupoumenas, also took part in the game due to injury. Captain Ronald Gauvin has selected Dormont wingback Ian Mattson to fill the void.
Goupoumenas reportedly suffered an injury in the warm-up match against Iceland. The 26-year-old midfield all-rounder has been assessed as unavailable for this year's Europa League. Goupmenas has had an outstanding season, scoring 15 goals in 51 games in all competitions for Atalanta, and has been the hero of his team's Europa League win.
Goupoumenas, who won Manchester United and other big clubs, missed out on the Europa League, which was a major blow to both his solo career and the Dutch competition. As for Ian Mattson, who received a bye, they were initially selected in the initial list of 30, but they were earlier picked from the final 26 to return from home.
Holland's current army roster is only 25, and Ronald Gauvin could pick up another one. The Netherlands are in Group D of the Europa League and will face Poland on Sunday night (16) before taking on France and Austria.
