Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's upcoming friendly against Bayern Munich in South Korea, team manager Postecoglou attended a press conference to give his thoughts on the upcoming match, preseason arrangements, the weather in South Korea, player check-ins and Son's contract extension.
Speaking about the showdown with Bayern Munich, Postecoglou said, "This match against Bayern is very much awaited. We hope to gain valuable experience through this pre-season and it will be a great challenge for us to play against such a strong team. We will give our best to give our fans a great game and hopefully finish the campaign well back in London."
Regarding the upcoming arrangement to play Bayern twice, Postecoglou sees it as a rare opportunity, "We will face a very good opponent, which will not only be a chance to test the results of our preseason training, but also a great match. The matches in Seoul and London may be different due to environmental factors, but wherever we are, we will give our best and use these two matches as a final chance to check our preseason preparations."
Speaking about how the weather in South Korea affected the team, Postecoglou said, "It is true that the players will have some difficulties in training in an unfamiliar environment, but from another point of view, it's also an opportunity to arm themselves mentally. Through the pre-season, we have gotten a good boost in fitness and game condition. I've heard that the weather in London is cooler now, which is good news for us, and when we get back we can prepare for the start of the new season more comfortably."
On the issue of a number of starters not yet reporting for duty, Postecoglou appeared not to be worried: "I don't think it's a big problem. The most important thing is that the players can adjust their condition and get ready for the new season. There are a lot of games waiting for us in the future, and as long as everyone is well-prepared, I'm sure we'll be able to meet all kinds of challenges."
Finally, when asked about Sun's contract extension, Postecoglou said, "It's not up to me alone to decide on players' contract extensions. I think what is more important is how to prepare for the new season with Sun and others. I believe the club will discuss the contract extension at the right time. What is more important for me is how to prepare for the new season. There are a lot of young players in the team who need to grow, and the likes of Son can play an important role in that by being a role model for the younger players and taking on the role of leading the team."
