Paris, capital of France
Saint-Germain (PSG) has officially announced that from
Benfica (city in Morocco)
Signing of 19-year-old midfielder João Neves. After joining PSG, Neves revealed that both he and Benfica president Rui Costa were in tears during their parting.
João Neves said: "Neither I nor my family have called anyone to pressure them to leave, and Benfica don't want me to leave. I've spoken to President Rui Costa a few times and we've always been on the same page. The transfer wasn't easy for the president to accept either, he was very emotional and we were both in tears. But selling me would be good for the club."
Neves added: "We decided a long time ago that we did our best to reach an agreement that satisfied both parties. From a financial point of view, it's good for the club and for me."
On the new journey he is about to embark on, Neves admits that leaving his comfort zone scares him: "At Benfica, from day one, since my debut in the top flight, since my first training session, my teammates and staff have been very caring. Now I'm leaving to go to a different country and face a different environment. I'm not sure what I can do yet, but I'll do my best, as I've always done, that's my character."
The transfer of João Neves is not only a major leap forward for his career, but also a financial boost for the Benfica club. A young promising player, Neves' future at PSG is highly anticipated. Fans are hopeful that he will adapt quickly to his new surroundings and continue to show his talent and hustle in Ligue 1 and Europe.
