After Manchester United's bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ugarte stalled, the team has quickly adjusted its reinforcement strategy to look at other potential midfield reinforcement targets. According to renowned journalist Ben Jacobs, United are currently keeping a close eye on Wolves' João Gomes and Brazil's Fluminense's André in their search for an alternative to Ugarte.

Ugarte as the ideal candidate for Manchester United's midfield, its transfer process has not been as smooth as expected. Paris Saint-Germain has been insisting on a high price of 60 million euros, while Manchester United's highest verbal offer of only 35 million euros, the valuation gap between the two sides is huge, leading to a stalemate in the negotiations. Despite United's strong desire to buy, Paris Saint-Germain seem to be in no hurry to sell the Uruguayan international, and believe that there are still several buyers in the market interested in Ugarte.

Meanwhile, other top European clubs such as Bayern Munich have also joined the battle for Ugarte, which further increases the difficulty for Manchester United to bring in the player. Faced with such a situation, Manchester United had to consider alternatives to ensure the team's midfield strength.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' João Gomes has become a key target for Manchester United. The Portuguese midfielder has shown great strength and potential in the Premier League and is an ideal choice for United to strengthen their midfield. However, Wolves valued João Gomes at more than £60 million, making it a huge financial cost for United to bring him in. Nonetheless, United have not given up on their efforts and are in advanced talks with Wolves to agree on a transfer fee.

Apart from João Gomes, Fluminense's André is another midfielder on United's radar. Compared to Ugarte and João Gomes, Andre's transfer fee is relatively low, below 35 million euros, which reduces United's financial pressure to a certain extent. Andre is considered a valuable addition to United's midfield after his impressive performances in the Brazilian league and possesses excellent technique and vision. United are closely monitoring Andre's development and are considering making an offer in due course in the future.
