Premier League giants Manchester United have changed tack in their quest for midfield reinforcements and are no longer sticking to their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain's Uruguayan midfielder Ugarte, according to a report by The Athletic's renowned reporter David Ornstein. The decision stems from United's unwillingness to meet the Parisian side's asking price of up to about 60 million euros, a core issue on which the two sides have huge differences.

The report pointed out that Manchester United originally held a strong interest in Ugarte and conducted in-depth transfer negotiations. However, with the deepening of the negotiation, United's management gradually realized that Paris Saint-Germain's asking price is too high, beyond their budget range and transfer strategy. As a result, United decided to adjust the direction of attraction, and focus on other more cost-effective midfielders.

Currently, Manchester United is actively looking for other midfield reinforcement targets to fill the team's vacancy in the midfield position. They have stated that they are only willing to pay what they consider to be a reasonable transfer fee and will not let the negotiations drag on endlessly. This stance also demonstrates Manchester United's cautious and pragmatic approach in the transfer market.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain don't seem to be in a hurry to sell Ugarte as they know that the 23-year-old young midfielder is very popular in the market and there are many other clubs who are eyeing him. Therefore, the Parisian side may continue to keep a strong stance and wait for other clubs to make a bid or for United to soften their attitude.
