Germany started the game rather slowly, scoring only two points in the first three minutes or so, and Greece took advantage to get off to a good 10-2 start. Afterwards, Alphabet continued to impact the interior, helping Greece to take a double-digit lead. At the end of the first quarter, Germany scored only 10 points, trailing by 10 points.
Going into the second quarter, Baboury chased down consecutive points on breakaways and outside shots, but Greece responded with a whistle-stop three. Germany pushed the lead to just one point at one point by making back-to-back outside shots. A dunk by Tess helped Germany tie the game at the end of the half.
Schroeder helped Germany get back on top with a three-pointer at the start of the second half, but Greece hit three three-pointers in a row and the teams engaged in an intense see-saw battle. Back-to-back dunks by Thiemann and a whistling triple by Bonga gave Germany a seven-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, both teams' hitting percentage dropped as Alphabet chalked up consecutive points through the power play, but Wagner Jr. kept responding. Germany extended its lead to double digits on consecutive inside-outs. A three-pointer by Schroeder almost sealed the game. In the end, the German men's basketball team successfully advanced to the semifinals with a 76-63 comeback victory over the Greek men's basketball team.
