Liverpool (England)
For the £51 million signing
Real Sociedad (soccer team)
midfielder
Zubi Mendi (name)
Optimistic. Liverpool are hoping the 25-year-old midfielder can push through a move from Real Sociedad to Anfield.
Liverpool's new boss Sloter wants his team to play a more possession-oriented style of play, and for that he needs to bring in a technical midfielder. Slot believes that Zubimendi can bring more control to the team. Zubimendi's release clause is 51 million pounds, Liverpool is confident that the deal will be completed, and hope that he can join the team as soon as possible.
Sloter also seems to be looking to get rid of Koh Endo, who was signed from Stuttgart last summer, in order to further tweak and improve the team's midfield setup.
Zubimendi has previously been under the radar of several clubs, including Barcelona. Barcelona manager Xavi has praised Zubimendi as the type of player who can control the game with and without the ball. However, Zubimendi previously chose to stay at his childhood club Real Sociedad.
A tricky issue regarding Zubie Mendy's £51million release clause could be Real Sociedad's insistence that Liverpool pay the money in a lump sum. Liverpool's triggering of release clauses to sign Sobosloe for £60m and McAllister for £35m last summer showed Liverpool's ability to make a hefty outlay in the short term.
In addition, Liverpool player Morton is being watched by Leipzig, who have bid around £20 million for him. Leicester City and Southampton, on the other hand, are keen on signing Fabio Carvalho.
