Against Nigeria. The game started off with a brief stalemate before the USA came out quickly and gained a double-digit advantage through a combination of inside and outside play. Although Nigeria kept pounding the interior to try and catch up, USA's Plummer was outstanding, scoring and assisting on one shoulder to help keep the team in the lead.

At halftime, the U.S. women's basketball team led Nigeria by 19 points, 52-33. As the game resumed, the U.S. continued its high-pressure stance, going on a 10-0 run to extend the deficit to 30 points. Nigeria's Amukamara scored seven straight points to stop the bleeding a little, but the U.S. team played steadily and always maintained a big lead.

Near the end of the game, a Nigerian layup in garbage time sparked a clash that led to a technical foul being called on USA's Cooper. In the end, the U.S. women's basketball team easily defeated Nigeria, 88-74, to advance to the Olympic quarterfinals.
