In a recent interview, Manchester United veteran Sylvester gave his views on the current situation and future of Manchester United, and in particular, he has high hopes for manager Jens Ten Hagar. He believes that United should not be satisfied with just winning domestic cups, but should take the Premier League title as the club's primary goal, just like Manchester City and Arsenal.
Sylvester emphasized, "Cup competitions are not United's main pursuit, they must fight for the league title with all their might as Manchester City and Arsenal have shown in the past two seasons. United have a brilliant history and a huge fan base and they should pursue higher honors."
For Ten Hagar, Sylvester has given his full trust and support. He mentioned that United had considered other candidates to replace Ten Hagar, but ultimately decided to keep trusting the Dutch coach and triggered a one-year extension clause in his contract. Sylvester believes it was a wise decision, stating, "I couldn't have found a better candidate than Ten Hagar either. He's made an excellent start and although last season was a bit disappointing, the team's progress and performances are still something to look forward to. Now that Ten Hagar has the full backing of the club, I am confident that he can lead United to new heights."
Speaking on the issue of bringing in full-fledged players at Ten Hagar, Sylvester said it cannot be generalized. He believes that every player is different, with some players performing well after joining the club while others fail to live up to expectations. He specifically mentioned Anthony and Lisandro Martinez as examples, with the former underperforming and the latter playing an important role in the team. According to Sylvester, both coaches and sporting directors will have a certain network of contacts, but ultimately it is up to the players to bring actual performance to the team.
Finally, Sylvester is confident about the future of Manchester United. He believes that under the leadership of Ten Hagar, United will be able to bring in more outstanding players to enhance the strength of the team and show strong competitiveness in the Premier League. He expects United to return to the top and become the dominant player in the EPL again.
