It was a fierce battle for the gold medal with Indonesia's Leonardo. Ng Peng beat world record holder and American Watson in the semifinals with a time of 4:85 to advance to the final, while Leonardo advanced with a time of 4:78.
In the bronze medal race, Watson of the United States set a new world record with a time of 4:74 to win the bronze medal.
In the ensuing battle for the gold medal, Wu Peng played well and climbed to a personal best of 4'77, however, Indonesia's Leonardo was even better and won the gold medal with a time of 4'75.

The Chinese team added another valuable medal in the sport climbing event in this year's Olympic Games. Leonardo, on the other hand, with his outstanding performance, managed to win the gold medal and became the champion of the Men's Speed Race in this year's Olympic Games.
