At the beginning of the competition, Xie SiYi scored 86.70 points with his 3.4 difficulty forward tumbling two-and-a-half turns and two-week bends and Wang ZongYuan scored 81.60 points with the same difficulty in the first jump. In the second jump, Xie SiYi made a slight mistake and scored 79.20 points, temporarily back to the third, while Wang ZongYuan made 91.00 points with the 3.5 difficulty of the backward somersault one and a half weeks to three weeks and a half, rising to the top of the list.

In the third jump, Xie SiYi got a high score of 97.20 with a 3.6 difficulty Backward Tumbling Triple Half Knee Hold to regain the lead, but Wang ZongYuan got 95.55 with a 3.9 difficulty Forward Tumbling Triple Half Two-Week Turn to take the lead again. In the fourth jump, the two competitors were hard to distinguish between them, with Xie SiYi's 91.00 points and Wang ZongYuan's 89.25 points making the competition even more tense.

The fifth jump was the turning point of the competition, Xie SiYi regained the lead with a 3.7 difficulty Inward Tumbling Triple Half Bend scoring 88.80 points, while Wang ZongYuan temporarily trailed behind with 70.20 points due to an error. In the final sixth jump, both Chinese athletes showed top strength, Xie SiYi scored 100.70 points, while Wang ZongYuan finished with 102.60 points, but it was not enough to reverse the result of the competition.

In the end, Xie Siyi successfully defended his title with a total score of 543.60 points, while Wang Zongyuan won the silver medal with a score of 530.20 points, placing him second in the event for the second consecutive Olympics. Mexico's Olvera won the bronze medal with an outstanding performance. The Chinese team once again showed strong dominance in the men's 3-meter board event.
