Bundesliga side Mainz have suffered a certain setback in the summer transfer market, according to senior Sky Sports Germany reporter Plettenberg. They originally regarded Liverpool's young center back Van den Berg as a key addition to the team's defense, but the reality made it difficult for them to get what they wanted. Faced with this predicament, Mainz had to adjust their strategy and set their sights on American center back Mark McKenzie of Belgium's Henk as a replacement for Van den Berg.

Plettenberg pointed out that although Mainz still has a strong interest in Van den Berg and sees him as a top target, the deal will be extremely difficult to complete due to a number of obstacles. As a result, the club's management has begun to prepare options in case the transfer of Van den Berg is not possible.

In this context, Henk's American center back McKenzie has entered Mainz's sights. According to Plettenberg, Mackenzie is open to joining the Bundesliga and may make a decision in the next few days. This news certainly provides new hope for Mainz, who are keeping a close eye on Mackenzie and are ready to make a move at the right time.

However, it is worth noting that there were also rumors of Stuttgart showing interest in Mackenzie, but as of now, no real action has been taken on Stuttgart's part. This somewhat reduces the competitive pressure on Mainz in the race for Mackenzie.

In addition, Plettenberg revealed the range of Henk's bid for Mackenzie, which is around €3 million to €5 million. This price range is relatively reasonable for Mainz, who are expected to successfully complete the deal in the transfer market, thus filling the void left by the failed transfer of Van den Berg.
