The latest transfer developments disclosed by the Daily Mail show that Newcastle United's second offer for Crystal Palace midfielder Wilfred Gueye, although improved, still fell short of Crystal Palace's psychological price, leading to the outright rejection of the offer. Newcastle's latest offer is said to be slightly less than £50 million, while Crystal Palace insisted on at least £65 million before they would consider releasing him.

Executives from both clubs, including Crystal Palace FC co-founder Steve Parish and Newcastle United's sporting director Paul Mitchell, are personally involved and leading the transfer talks. Although no agreement has yet been reached, the negotiation process is considered productive and provides a good basis for further negotiations in the future.

Notably, Gueye's contract with Crystal Palace will enter its final year next summer, increasing the likelihood that he will leave the club as a free agent in 2026. In order to avoid this loss, the Crystal Palace side would obviously like to finalize Gueye's transfer within this year, thus ensuring that the team receives a sizable transfer fee.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also preparing for Gueye's potential departure. They have reportedly expressed interest in bringing in Lille midfielder Lacroix and Chelsea defender Trevor Chalobah, with Lacroix being seen as the preferred target. In addition, Crystal Palace are also considering re-signing former star Zaha, who Galatasaray have expressed a willingness to sell, and possible loan or transfer talks between the two sides have attracted widespread attention.
