In a recent podcast, legendary Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand expressed his reservations and concerns about the club's latest signing - Derek De Ligt. Ferdinand began by acknowledging the club's reshuffle at right-back, believing that the departure of Wan Bissaka and the takeover of Mazrahi Mazrahi was a sensible deal. However, his attitude became complicated when the conversation turned to de Ligt.

Ferdinand recalls the glory days of Delicates at Ajax, when he was the centerpiece of the team's defense, showing exceptional leadership qualities and excellent defensive abilities, helping the team all the way to the Champions League semi-finals. However, since moving to Juventus, De Ligt's career seems to have come to a standstill, with frequent injuries limiting his playing time, much to Ferdinand's disappointment.

Despite the fact that United paid a whopping £45-50 million transfer fee to sign de Ligt, Ferdinand doesn't think he's the ultimate answer to the team's defensive problems. He pointed out that Dellihert's experience at Bayern Munich did not prove his consistency either, and he even played behind other players in the team's starting order. This has left Ferdinand uncertain about Dellihert's future at United.

Ferdinand also touched on United's current defensive setup and in particular the potential impact that the fitness of Jolo and Lisandro Martinez could have on the team's starting lineup. He is concerned that de Ligt could face a lot of pressure in his early days at United, but also sees this as an opportunity for him to prove himself. Ferdinand hopes that de Ligt will seize this opportunity and show the fans and coaching staff what he is really made of.
