Following Liverpool's 4-1 friendly win over Sevilla on Sunday night, Reds center-back Van Dyke spoke to The Independent about the progress of his contract extension and the team's current transfer efforts.
On the subject of contract extensions, Van Dyke says there are no new developments at the moment, but he is confident in the club. "There are no changes at the moment," he said, "Obviously, given the length of the season, I think we should sign some players to strengthen. However, I am confident that the club are working behind the scenes and that they will do the right thing for us to ensure that we have the best squad possible to be competitive in every competition we attend."
Van Dyke emphasized his trust in the club and said he will be patient with the outcome of the contract extension. "That's my main concern right now," he said, "I keep my trust in the club and then let's wait and see. I'm sure they're working very hard behind the scenes and we'll see what happens as far as the outcome is concerned."
In addition to the contract extension, Van Dyke spoke about the team's goals and attitude. "We're going to do the best we can and that's what we're aiming for," he said, "I'm ambitious, we're all ambitious and we all want to do the best we can. We go into every game to win and although winning every game is almost impossible, we are ready for the start of the Premier League and then we want to grow and do well over the season."
Van Dyke's speech demonstrated his sense of responsibility and determination as a team leader, and also conveyed a positive outlook on the club's future. As the new season approaches, Liverpool fans are undoubtedly looking forward to the team's performance in the new season.
