The parents of Argentina international Di Maria have recently received death threats threatening to kill a 36-year-old wing forward if he re-invests in A-League's mothers, Rosario Central Government, according to major UK media reports. According to the reports, some extreme fans may be resentful of Di Maria's work 'traitor' leaving Rosario Central and therefore hold a grudge in their hearts.
Di Maria was born in Rosario Central Juniors. After making his debut, he played 36 games for Argentina and in 2007 he moved to Portuguese supergiant Binfiga, where he went on to play for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Zuyundas before returning to Binfiga last summer.
Di Maria recently revealed that he was planning to return to the center of his hometown team, Rosario, kicking and hanging up his boots, but his parents immediately received a death threat letter that read, "Tell me something, tell me to go back to the center of Rosario or I will kill your family. If I don't comply, next time I'll collect letters and bullets as well as my body." The threats may have influenced DiMaria's decision to retire to his ancestral home.
In fact, this is the first time the family of an Argentine star has been threatened with death. The family of Logussu, the wife of Ballon d'Or's Mace, was shot at a supermarket last year and threatened again afterward.
