prosecutions

Lawsuit.

The problems reportedly began in September 2022, when Hamby announced her pregnancy and gradually surfaced. Hamby's attorney claimed that the Aces forced her to move out of team-provided housing and demanded that players and staff stop communicating with her, even attempting to illegally obtain her medical records.

Additionally, the attorney noted that Hamby was bullied by head coach Becky Hammon during her time with the team. Harmon made a series of false allegations, criticizing Hamby's pregnancy and questioning her commitment to the team. Ultimately, Hamby was traded in January 2023, and the lawsuit contends that the trade was solely a result of her pregnancy.

In an investigation into the situation, the WNBA found that the Las Vegas Aces "violated the league's rules regarding player welfare and workplace policies," and as a result decided to suspend head coach Hammond for two games and stripped the Aces of their first-round draft pick in 2023. However, Hamby's attorney said the WNBA's handling of the situation was too weak and failed to truly address the issue.

Hamby, 30, is a two-time All-Star and two-time Sixth Man of the Year award winner, and has won one championship in his career. This season, Hamby appeared in 24 games for the Sparks, contributing 19.2 points, 10 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. In addition, she represented Team USA in the three-player basketball tournament and won a bronze medal.

A WNBA spokesperson currently says it is reviewing this lawsuit by Hamby.
