In the Community Shield final that ended last night, Manchester United and Manchester City battled to a draw and eventually lost on penalties. After the match, United star Rio Ferdinand offered his insights on United striker Marcus Rashford's performance on his podcast, and strongly suggested that the club invite striker legend Ruud van Nistelrooy to coach Rashford in a bid to help him find his form and improve further.
Ferdinand was full of praise for Fanny's dominance in the penalty area, calling him "the devil in the box" and "a ruthless monster". He is convinced that his determination, aggression and his nose for goal are qualities that modern strikers desperately need. Ferdinand believes that if Rashford can be guided by a top striker like Fanny, he will be able to benefit greatly, not only in technical improvement, but also in the mentality and attitude of the game to change.
"Van Nistelrooy is not just a goal machine, he can do a lot of other things for the team." Ferdinand continued, "But I think one of his most important tasks right now is to focus on young strikers like Rashford and use his vast experience and expertise to guide them, to show them how to come through in key moments and how to stay calm and confident in the face of adversity."
Ferdinand also expressed his expectations of Rashford, who he hopes will be open to Vanney's guidance and put it into practice. "I would like to see Rashford take the initiative to learn from Fanny and say to him, 'Yes, yes, I'll do what I'm told, whatever Fanny says, I'll do it.'" Ferdinand said, "Conversations and interactions like that will be vital for Rashford personally and for the United team as a whole."
