Recently, Yahoo Sports reporter Jake Fischer revealed on his show Ball Don't Lie that
a warrior
The team's rising star, Jonathan
Kuminga
and his team are seeking a five-year, $224 million designated rookie clause max contract extension. The news has sparked widespread interest and discussion.
However, according to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, many sources within the league don't think the Warriors will agree to Kuminga's demands despite the fact that the Warriors want Kuminga to be a big part of the team's future. Based on available market assessments, the expected amount of Kuminga's contract is closer to between $140 million and $155 million over five years. For reference, Timberwolves forward Jaiden McDaniels signed a five-year, $131 million extension last summer, which is considered a more reasonable comparison to Kuminga's current market value.
Siegel further stated that although the Warriors would like to include Kuminga in their long-term plans, it seems unlikely that the two sides will reach an early extension before the start of the new season. Even so, Kuminga is still seen as an important part of the Warriors' future, and he will likely be in the team's starting lineup for the upcoming season.
In 2023-24, Kuminga appeared in 74 regular season games for the Warriors, averaging 26.3 minutes per game and contributing 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists. These numbers are a testament to his growth and potential as a young player and raise expectations for his future.
