In a recent interview with talkSPORT, soccer pundit Souness gave his personal opinion on the future of two of Liverpool's core players - Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dyk. He noted that with their contracts set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season and the reality of facing the lure of high wages in the Saudi League, he could not rule out the possibility of the two stars eventually opting to leave the club.

In particular, Souness emphasized the great appeal of the Saudi league to players approaching their thirties and eager to reap the rewards of a lucrative financial career at the tail end of their careers. He mentioned that Salah and Van Dyke's outstanding performances as world-class players in their respective positions will undoubtedly make Saudi clubs willing to offer contracts with high salaries that are hard to refuse.

"The offer from Saudi Arabia is certainly attractive for both Van Dyke and Salah," said Souness, "Salah in particular may be thinking about playing another season, but equally, as he gets older, Van Dyke may be thinking about his future. " He further analyzed that while the lure of such high wages may not have much of an impact on a younger, Liverpool native like Arnold, it is a reality that is hard to ignore for Salah and Van Dyke, who are entering the twilight of their careers.

Souness also noted that in the final stages of a contract year, players tend to adopt delaying tactics in order to maximize their financial gains in the transfer market. He speculates that such a strategy applies in the case of Salah and Van Dyke, and that they may have already made initial contact with potential underlings, it's just that those talks haven't been made public yet.
