In a recent interview, Liverpool's legendary star Jamie Carragher was full of confidence in his side's prospects for the new season and highlighted the abilities of new manager Jürgen Sloter and the impact he will have on the team's future. Carragher is confident that Liverpool will be capable of winning the Champions League under Sloter's leadership.
Carragher began by reviewing Liverpool's excellent performance last season, saying that the team had managed to shake off their previous slump and had shown great competitiveness. "We were all surprised and happy that Liverpool were able to shake off their sluggish performance last season and achieve such excellent results, they have some of the best players in all of Europe." He said.
Carragher spoke highly of new head coach Sloter, saying that his arrival will bring new energy and tactical philosophy to the team. "We've brought in a great coach and I'm sure we'll bring in one or two players as well, we've got a big squad." Carragher said he did not agree with the practice of giving coaches a year off and adapting to a new environment, but rather wanted the team to show immediate competitiveness in the new season.
Carragher also referred to his own experience when he played soccer, arguing that whenever there is a change of manager, the team creates a long-term development plan. However, he believes that this practice is not common in successful clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City. "The club has a new coach and of course we have to give him time to adapt, but I want us to be competitive on all fronts because we are Liverpool and we have a chance to win the Champions League." He emphasized.
Speaking about Sloter's tactical style, Carragher said that his attacking style is different to that of former manager Jurgen Klopp. "Sloter's attacking style is different to Klopp's because I've seen bits and pieces of it in pre-season, and his attacking style looks to be biased towards controlling the tempo and slightly more possession-oriented." He believes that this new tactical philosophy could lead to a more controlled and consistent style of play for Liverpool.
Nonetheless, Carragher also acknowledged that Liverpool in the Klopp era had great efficiency and spectacle on the attacking end. "Even if you look at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp last season, you'll see that there are still things they can improve on, and defense is one of the areas they can improve on." He believes that having more control in the game will help Liverpool perform better on the defensive end as well.
Finally, Carragher expressed his expectations and confidence in Liverpool for the new season. "I'm sure Slotter wants to take the team into the top four of the Premier League and of course winning trophies would be even better." He said, "I just want us to make sure we stay competitive because we are Liverpool and we are capable of winning everything."
