What are some of the best players in world soccer?
black goalkeeper
At the top level of soccer, Europe and South America have always been the top regions in terms of soccer strength, whether it's strikers, defenders or goalkeepers, there are too many stars from these two continents. In addition, Africa also produces a lot of stars, such as Eto'o, Drogba, Mane and other strikers, or Koulibaly, Toure and other defenses. They rely on their natural physical strengths, either in terms of speed or physical strength.
However, when it comes to African goalkeepers, there are not many that can be named, because goalkeepers do not rely much on physical strength, strength, speed, scouts who go to Africa basically look at these qualities, stereotypes tend to ignore those who have the potential of the African goalkeeper. Let's take a look at some of the goalkeepers who have played in Africa and Europe.
5: Kameni (Cameroon)
Kameni has always represented African goalkeepers and the 36-year-old former Malaga and Espanyol goalkeeper hasn't played for a year, having moved from Malaga to Fenerbahce of the Turkish Super League in 2017, but due to a ban, he has only made 16 appearances for the Turkish Super League side.
He played for Spaniards for 8 years from 2004 to 2012, making 222 appearances. He then played for Málaga for 5 years making 121 appearances. A very consistent African goalkeeper, to say the least.
4. Nkono (Cameroon)
Thomas Nkono counts himself among Cameroon's far-flung greats, and like his Cameroonian descendant Kameni, now 65 years old, he also plays for Espanyol, for whom he made 241 appearances and for a long time held the team's record for appearances, broken only last year by the current team captain, Javi Lopez.
Nkono had the same tough decision as Chinese player Wu Lei, who also chose to stay in the Westerners' last La Liga relegation in 1989.
3. Enyeama (Nigeria)
As a Nigerian international goalkeeper, he played with the team in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and became famous in the group stage match against Greece, except that it wasn't for his outstanding play, but for the fact that when a Greek player had already attacked and burst into the penalty area, he was still calmly leaning against the goalpost thinking about his life and was captured on camera.
Still the starting goalkeeper for the African Eagles at the 2014 World Cup, he was no longer called up for the 2018 World Cup due to age, eventually settling on 110 national team appearances. Enyeama spent the last years of his career as the starting goalkeeper for Lille in Ligue 1.
2: Mendy (Senegal)
Mendy, the tall, skinny goalkeeper who joined Ligue 1's Rennes last year, has recently been rumored to be of interest to Chelsea in bringing him to the Blue Bridge. He has a height of 197 but is quick to make saves.
Mendy, who moved to Rennes last season, made 33 appearances for Rennes in his first season.
1: Onana (Cameroon)
Onana has been a target for a number of giants this summer, and of course, Ajax have a number of players in their squad who have what it takes to land in the giants. Onana, 24, was tapped up by Barcelona from Africa to La Liga back at the age of 14, but due to irregularities and the presence of Ter Stegen, he had to move away to Holland. He left Barcelona in January 2015 to join Ajax, where he would play his first season in the Dutch Eredivisie for Ajax II.
Then began a career playing for Ajax's first team in 2016
After that Onana and Ajax were trophyless for a long time. Until the 2018/19 season, when they were supported by veterans Tadic, Blind, de Ligt, Ziyech and others, Ajax won the Dutch League title for the first time since 2014, as well as beating Willem II in the Dutch Cup final. And it got even better in Europe, knocking out Real Madrid and Juve by scores of 5:3 and 3:2 before narrowly losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League semifinals by scoring fewer away goals.
Onana's growth hasn't been smooth sailing, at least not yet, and he hasn't reached his prime goaltending years, so he has a long road ahead of him, and he'll need to prove himself with consistent play.
