In a recent interview with Sky Sports Germany, Mainz FC owner Christian Heidel expressed his strong interest in young Dutch midfielder Van den Berg and revealed the team's stance and strategy regarding the loanee's future destination.

Haider began by emphasizing Liverpool's decisive role in the question of Van den Berg's future destination. He stated, "The decision is entirely in Liverpool's hands and we respect their right to decide." However, he also mentioned van den Berg's own desire to return to Mainz and hinted that this personal desire could have an impact on Liverpool's decision.

Haider further elaborated on the complexity of the loan deal: "Liverpool of course have the right to put a price tag on the player, but the key is whether a club is willing to pay that price and the player himself is willing to travel." He admits that such conditions have not been reached so far, which gives Mainz a chance to keep fighting.

It would be perfect for Mainz if Liverpool were willing to loan Van den Berg for another year. Haider said, "We are waiting a while to see how things will develop. Of course, we will also be prepared for the eventuality that it doesn't work out."

In addition, Haider also revealed the attitude of Van den Berg himself, the player has confirmed his willingness to return to Mainz, which undoubtedly adds a sense of confidence to Mainz's loan program. Although there are still many uncertainties, the Mainz side is well prepared, whether it is to continue to wait or to look for other alternatives.
