According to talkSPORT, Premier League side Newcastle United have shown strong interest in signing Chelsea winger Madouekei. The transfer rumors are all the more interesting as Chelsea have just announced the signing of Wolves star Neto, who could further reduce Madueke's chances of playing for Chelsea.
Madouekei moved to Chelsea from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for a whopping £28.5 million, and although his initial performances at Stamford Bridge were not spectacular, he gradually showed his strengths as time went on. Especially at the end of last season, Madoueke scored five goals in the Premier League, three of which came in the last eight games of the season, showing his good athleticism and goal-scoring ability.
However, Madouekei's appearances at Chelsea have been relatively limited due to the fact that Chelsea have a large squad and fierce competition for positions. In 23 Premier League games last season, he only made 13 starts. Now, with Neto joining Chelsea for a transfer fee of around £51 million, Madueké's position in the team could be even more marginalized.
For new manager Enzo Maresca, he is currently facing an overcrowded forward line. After another summer of big reinforcements, Chelsea need to balance the books and restructure their squad. As a result, pushing players such as Madouekei into the transfer market has become a viable option.
An experienced England youth international, Madouekei has also had an outstanding career with the England U21 national team, making 20 appearances for the team and scoring 7 goals. With this background, he has become the target of many teams, and Newcastle United is one of them. Newcastle United will be looking to bring in Madouekei to strengthen their squad and achieve better results in the new season.
