A Spanish court on Thursday (22) found former Brazilian international Daniel guilty of rape and sentenced him to four years and six months in prison.

Daniel, 40, is accused of sexually assaulting and attacking a 23-year-old woman in December 2022 at a nightclub in Barcelona. Daniels denied the allegations, changing his statement from saying he didn't know the woman to saying he had met her and that he had been drinking heavily. He later admitted to having consensual sexual intercourse and emphasized that he had not raped the woman, although forensic evidence showed that his cognitive ability was only slightly affected by the alcohol consumption. Daniel has been detained and denied bail since January last year, and although he has applied for parole several times, he has not been granted it. The prosecutor even asked the court to impose a 9-year sentence, while the lawyer representing the woman even asked to sentence him to 12 years' imprisonment, and he was finally sentenced to 4 years and 6 months' imprisonment, as well as to pay compensation of 150,000 euros to the woman.
